Than you so much for the tut! I've been looking for the perfect glossy orb technique, and I believe I may have found it. This tutorial allows for some really fun customization. My results were absolutely gorgeous, so thanks again for sharing.

My guess is that your image may not be the exact same size as mine, or perhaps the resolution is different. This will affect the distance and spread needed for your effect layers. If you play with the styles you should be able to come very close to replicating the effects I have shown, even if the distances and spreads are different numbers. When you complete the graphic, you are probably going to want to create a merged smart-object of all the layers before scaling. Otherwise, if you simply scale the image, you styles will not scale correspondingly.

Thank you for taking the time to do this. I am learning a great deal. I am using CS2 on Windows. I am up to Step 14. When I apply the Drop Shadow, it does not respect the lighting settings. I am getting the same shade all the way around the circle. It seems to be related to the fact the Spread is so much bigger than the Size. Can you offer a guess on where I may be going wrong? I will be using a series of these buttons in different colors for my web site. I am hoping that I can copy the lighting layers from image to image to keep the look consistent. Thanks again.
