Google has announced a new campaign-level option permitting advertisers to create ad campaigns targeted directly to users of the new T-Mobile Android phone, the G1, and the iPhone. This new campaign targeting option also extends AdWords campaigns to any mobile device that have full HTML browser support.

Some of the biggest benefits of this are in the ability to now to optimize ads specifically to the new devices and create exclusive campaigns for them. This of course also provides separate performance reporting and can be used to create new campaign conversion goals within Google Analytics.

Targeting your ads to “people on the go” can have a huge effect on the performance of some ad campaigns, especially during holiday shopping season. People that are searching for items on their phone are often in stores looking at products first-hand and looking for better deals online. By using this knowledge and some creative marketing on your websites, conversions are a just click away.

According to Google, last Christmas the iPhone drove more traffic to Google.com worldwide than any other mobile platform. And with holiday sales of touch-screen mobile devices and the release of the new T-Mobile G1, this trend will surely be seen again this year.

Ready to get started? You may not need to change a thing. Unlike the standard mobile ads, your current standard AdWords ads and landing pages will work fine on the G1 and iPhone without modification.
