Comic Book Photo Effect

A great way to spice up your personal photos can be through the use of filters and creative effects. In this tutorial I am going to walk you through a classic comic book Photoshop effect.

STEP 1

Open your source photograph with Photoshop. In my sample I used this picture. Before you do anything else, I recommend that you play with the contrast and color a bit. Here is how my photo looked after the color adjustment:

STEP 2

Next, I am adding some grain to the image to create the base for comic book effect (Filters >> Artistic >> Film Grain). Play around with the settings a little bit to achieve a similar effect to my image:

STEP 3

Duplicate the image layer and set the blending mode to darken. Make sure you have this new layer above the original layer. Next apply a Color Halftone (Filter >> Pixelate >> Color Halftone). I set my max radius to 10 and left the other variables at default levels.

STEP 4

Add some style elements to the photograph to enhance the comic book effect. Let your imagination go wild on this step:
