You did it in grade school to start stories and probably right through to college, brainstorming was a smart way to get a document started because it let you just gather ideas in one place. The basic premise of brainstorming is also the way to take your marketing efforts to the next level. Need a refresher on brainstorming to kick it up a few levels? Here are some things to keep in mind when brainstorming for marketing ideas:

• Create a worksheet with space for 12 ideas and spend no more than 5 minutes putting down what comes to mind. If you fill up the sheet, start another one. After the time is up, the data needs to be analyzed.

• Categorize, rank and critique the information based on the requirements for the product or service being brainstormed.

• Keep your environment free from distractions and creatively sparked. You may want to play some soft music and try moving around the room rather than confining your ideas and body to one space.

Since we know that brainstorming isn’t going out of style, try using the tips mentioned here the next time and see what new level your marketing goes to.
